New Hampshire Academy |
Louis A. Datilio IIILou was born into gymnastics. He was raised at the New Hampshire Academy and this is where he started his apprenticeship. His competitive career began in 1984 as a “NHAAGS” gymnast. “Big” Lou coached “Not-So-Little” Lou into a world class athlete. Lou earned five Junior Olympic National Championship titles for NHAAGS under the coaching of his father and Barry Weiner. After Barry left the coaching staff of the New Hampshire Academy, he went on to become a coach of the 1996 USA Gymnastics Olympic Team. In 1991, Lou was recognized as an Olympic caliber gymnast and left the New Hampshire Academy and his father’s coaching program to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. There he was coached by Ron Brant, the United States Men’s Program Director and 2000 Olympic Coach, and Vital Marinich, a Soviet World Champion. While at the Olympic Training Center, Lou was a member of the Senior Elite National Team and competed around the world. In 1996, an Olympic year, he was ranked among the top 12 gymnasts in the United States. In addition to his many athletic accomplishments, Lou was also an assistant coach with the Men’s Program Director and 2000 Olympic coach at a private club in Colorado. Lou’s accomplishments earned him a full athletic scholarship to the University of Iowa where he had a double major in both Mathematics and Physics. In addition to his rigorous academic schedule, he still managed to win a Big Ten Championship and All American Standing. In 2000, Lou graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in both Mathematics and Physics as well as 40 graduate credits toward a Masters Degree in Solid State Physics. Lou returned to the New Hampshire Academy in 2002 as Program Director. Using his decades of coaching by and with Olympic and World Champions, Lou has put together a program at the New Hampshire Academy that combines and exemplifies the best training in the world. In these four short years back at the gym, he has managed to create 4 state champions and 1 Regional champion. His current team has competed internationally (in Russia) and came home with an all around champion.
